Derick's Surprise Package No. 2

A while back I decided to make a quilt for Derick.

Let me back up... April 1, Derick left the United States, heading to Afghanistan.  He was required to bring his sleeping bag.  On his last deployment, he used his sleeping bag every night.

After he arrived and got settled in, he told me that he had purchased cheap bedding from the closest Exchange to use on his bed.  He said he had a real bed, not just a cot.  And he would like for me to send him something better.

We shopped on Amazon together.

As an aside, it was actually a quite enjoyable way to shop together.  I hate shopping.  I hate making decisions.  But, it was fun browsing the same website, but different items.  It was great being able to send links back and forth to see.  I highly recommend it for people that don't enjoy going to the mall.

Anyway, we shopped on Amazon together.  I ordered what I thought he would like and had it shipped directly to him.  Just like magic!

I found sheets, and a pillow very quickly and I promised that I would take care of a blanket too.  And immediately, I thought of the T-shirt quilt that I had just made for my neighbor.  Originally my idea was to make one of just Derick's shirts for the kids to snuggle with.  But when Derick asked for a comforter, I decided to make one for him with everyone's shirts.

I made the quilt top and then I took it to Quilts by Kristy in Bloomington to have it machine quilted.  She did a fantastic job! I would highly recommend her!  Here are a couple of photos that she took.

wanted to get it done by early to mid summer.  But, life gets in the way and it just didn't happen.  I finally finished it about the middle of August and he received it last week.   This is a video that his friend, Jesse, took of him receiving his quilt.  Enjoy!

And here is a shot of Brody Facetiming with his daddy so we can see the quilt on Derick's bed.

And if you made it this far in my post, stay tuned... I have one more video to share.  ðŸ˜‰
