Spontaneous Bowling

I took my kids bowling last night. I was really feeling Derick's absence.  The kids were glued to the TV. And when they were in between shows, they were arguing and fighting.  We had to get out of the house! So when Aida asked if we could do something fun, I looked up the Christian Center Bowling Alley. Wouldn't ya know, kids are $1.50/game and $1 for shoes. I can swing that. And the bonus... The place was almost empty! No one for my kids to distract and annoy! Here are a few highlights. 


Aida posing for the camera. Trying to look good so I can send the pic to daddy! She was the only one truly concerned about the score.  She got a couple of spares and one strike but was still unhappy when Allyn beat her in the end. 


Christian checking out the score board. He lost to me by only one point, with a score of 104... With bumpers! Oh, yeah!


Watching Allyn run towards the lane and literally fling the ball at the pins! Always turning away with a grin and a high-five was definitely a highlight!


This is how Brody bowled. Every. Single. Frame. Which is why one game took an hour and a half! 

And there's no pictures of me trying to get gutter balls, in spite of the bumpers... Too bad! What a fun night with my kids! We will definitely be doing that again!

Lights Out

My lights are going out.  I'm a little sad.  I came home a few nights ago to find this: My Christmas lights are comforting and soothing to me.  When Derick was deployed in 2009, I put lights on my house for Christmas. And then I decided I would leave them up (and on) until he returned.  It was so welcoming. When coming home to an empty house in the winter!  And it still is!  Seeing a section of them out is no longer soothing or welcoming!  I guess maybe I should either get new or see if I can fix them.  It's a set of LED lights. I think it's 300 lights... Or maybe just 100... Hope Anchors the Soul

I am so exhausted!  But I want to take a moment to show you all what I did yesterday.  I'm pretty excited about it!  Derick is equally excited about it!   Hebrews 6:19-20 says:  "We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek." I love those verses.  I am constantly thinking about when I get to see Derick next.  But, let's face it, he's in Afghanistan!  The thought of him not coming home at all has crossed my mind.  I'm sure it's crossed the mind of every military wife that has had to send their loved one off to war.   But that's what is so encouraging here.  I have a hope in Jesus Christ, that transcends the hope I have in Derick's return.  I WILL see Derick again. No matter what!  And it is because of this hope in Jesus, that is a sure ...

Do the Right Thing

I skipped the gym today.  There is a spinning class that starts in 15 minutes that I had good intentions of going to.  *sigh*  I know all the right things to do while Derick is gone.  Its the actual "doing" part that trips me up! Is this a struggle for anyone else?  And its not just going to the gym, its every area of my life.     "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you."   I signed up to run a triathlon this summer.  I did it last year.  Signed up with a team and ended up running the whole thing by myself.  I didn't die, so why not do it again? I've had good intentions of signing up for about one a month while Derick is deployed.  But, so far, just one...  I really have a pretty good idea of what I need to do to train for it.  But there are some days that I just cannot force myself.   "The Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation."
